Description
Azure Hawker AH-ESC-001 ‘Tarsi’ Electronic Speed Controller for brushed DC motors. Azure Hawker worked closely with Tiny4x4 and the Orlandoo community in the design of this board. As a result, we have a super little ESC, which is perfect for Orlandoos and also other micro crawlers. The AH-ESC-001 does everything the TS0001 does, but better. And we mean lots better! It also packs in a great high-end feature set. Not only does it pull this off within an almost identical foot print, it also comes in at a crazy low price! For just a few dollars more than the Orlandoo TS0001, in a stroke the Azure Hawker AH-ESC-001 has effectively made the Orlandoo ESC obsolete. We respectfully ask you to bow your head and observe a minute’s silence to commemorate its passing…
Let’s start at the top – capable of delivering 4.2A, this ESC is plenty strong enough for anything up to a 180-can motor 1/18 rig. It also uses higher resolution FETs for super-fine motor control – the TS0001 is like an on/off switch by comparison. Not only do you get to properly train your throttle finger, but it also all happens in glorious silence! The Tarsi runs at 19kHz PWM to remove all that irritating motor chirping at startup or under partial throttle. Bliss!
You also get an adaptive drag brake. You whaaa…? Yes that’s right! You can now crawl effectively with a higher rpm motor – particularly if you’ve upgraded to a more powerful N30 can. Not only do you get to enjoy some speed, but it is more easily controlled, and you have stopping power on an incline. Set at 70%, the drag brake will automatically apply up to 100% when small throttle inputs are detected. This reduces the risk of high-speed backflips while giving full braking force during technical crawling. Ah, not needed so much in an orlandoo rig with a low rpm motor you might say. Maybe not, but with a 150rpm motor installed, startup speeds become way more controllable with the Azure Hawker AH-ESC-001.
These features alone will be enough to convince most crawler folk, but it doesn’t stop there – oh no! This ESC is 2S or 3S capable, with automatic LiPo detection. If you can find a 3S battery small enough, get ready to let rip! Talking of LiPos, to help keep yours in tip-top condition, the Azure Hawker AH-ESC-001 also packs low voltage cut-off. You retain power to the servo, but power to the motor is cut off. If you have LEDs connected to the brake light output they will start flashing to indicate the LVC has activated. For the safety conscious amongst you, rest assured this ESC also offers a failsafe, cutting power to the motor if radio signal is lost. This feature needs to be set up on your transmitter.
If you haven’t already added six of these to the cart, let’s run through the other features you’ll have benefited from with the TS0001. Low voltage servo output, with the correct socket? Check. Onboard light controller with correct output voltages? Check – and with interest! Not only do you have the familiar on/off (2ch) or off/lo/hi beam (3ch) control, you also get functioning brake lights, reverse light and side lights outputs. Brake lights share the rear light LEDs, with 50% brightness for rear lights and 100% for the brake lights, which come on at zero throttle. The side lights come on with the headlights, but do not have the high beam function.
In fact the only thing that might possibly make you hesitate is that the board doesn’t come prewired, and you’ll also need to source your own LEDs. On balance a small price to pay, because this board is an absolute steal. We guarantee you WILL NOT find these features at this price point anywhere else on the planet 🙂 And if you haven’t already done a little wee from excitement, we can confidently say there is plenty more to come from Azure Hawker!
