Description
1/18 PasseriRC Quantum GP-15. Most definitely not a 4×4 – but it is tiny at least! Okay, so this is a bit of a departure from our brief, but can you blame us? This 1/18th scale RC bike is closely modelled after the Ducati Desmosedici GP15 Moto GP bike, as ridden by Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone for the 2015 season. Not only do you get a finely detailed model kit, you also get to drive it!
It doesn’t just look gorgeous either. Just like the real thing, the Quantum GP-15 means business. The rear wheel is band-driven by a high-rpm brushless outrunner motor. Ballraces and bronze bushings are used throughout the bike, ensuring minimal drag and precision in all the moving parts. The single cell (1S) LiPo fits snugly under the cowling at the lowest point in the chassis, ensuring optimal handling. It also boasts realistic-looking working front and rear suspension. The PasseriRC designer is a watchmaker, and it shows in every precision-engineered detail of this bike.
However, where the Quantum GP-15 really moves into a league of its own is with the steering system. Other RC bikes rely on a heavy flywheel or electronic trickery to try and maintain balance, and are notoriously difficult to drive. The GP-15 flips the bird to this received wisdom, instead pursuing scale RC perfection. At this point, we should introduce Kevin.
Kevin is your rider, and will follow your every command, mainly because he has a servo attached to his butt cheeks. He also happens to be more flexible than your average floor gymnast, and carries some useful weight in his biker boots. When you steer left, Kevin leans left. When you steer right, he leans right. His knees come out in a realistic fashion, and his head also turns in the same direction. And when Kevin leans, the bike follows. The front wheel is not connected to the servo, but has a small amount of passive steering movement. Once the bike begins to lean, the wheel steers smoothly into the direction of turn.
This system, so close to how a 1:1 bike is ridden, works amazingly well. It still requires practice, and just like a 1:1 the only thing keeping you shiny side up is your momentum. But once mastered, the rewards are endless! Go on, channel the legendary Andrea Iannone and relive the glories of the 2015 Moto GP in miniature!
Everything you need except a radio, paint, glue and tools is included in the kit. You get 2x batteries, the motor, servo and ESC, all the necessary components for bike and rider. Also included are a few grams of tungsten putty for finely tunable weighting and a complete waterslide decal set. It all comes wrapped in a very cool high-impact carry box that is perfect for transporting the completed bike.
As if all that wasn’t enough, we also have an extensive range of CNC alloy hop-ups and performance parts available! We will also include an exclusive Tiny4x4 axle stand with every kit, for static display of your completed model.
The GP-15 comes as a builder’s kit only. Download the Assembly Manual Here
Images show completed model for illustration purposes only. Soldering is required and the cowling will require the usual preparation and paint. If you are put off by the rough texture of the chassis and mudguards these can be sanded smooth with some extra effort.
PLEASE NOTE: This kit requires medium to advanced modelling skills to complete, including soldering of small components and fine wires.
